16th (The Queen's) Light Dragoons

Dismounted Troop
The 16th (The Queen's) Light Dragoons Dismounted Troop is the re-created dismounted section of one of the two British Cavalry Regiments to serve with the British Army during the American Revolutionary War. This unit acts as a Light Company on the battle field.
The time period presented by the unit is 1775 - 1783.

The 16th (The Queen's) Light Dragoons Dismounted Troop Military Re-enactment Group members are expected to attend the two or three official British Brigade battle re-enactment events each year and to participate in the recreation of the everyday life of the British soldier.

The soldiers of the 16th (The Queen's) Light Dragoons Dismounted Troop represent a spit and polish unit befitting their Colonel, who is also the General Officer Commanding, Brigadier General of the British Army.

The majority of the living history American
Revolutionary War re-enactment events are held throughout the Northeastern United States and Canada. The recreated Regiment is a member of the British Brigade and most of the Troopers are also members of the Brigade of the American Revolution, two of the largest and most respected Revolutionary War living history organizations.
THE UNIFORM & KIT

The uniform of The Re-created 16th (Queen's) Light Dragoons, Dismounted Troop is the uniform worn by the Regiment when they arrived near New York in late September 1776.

The uniform consists of a Taleton style leather helmet with a leopard skin turban and a black bear roach. A shorter version of the 16th Light Dragoon regimental coat of madder red wool with royal blue collar and cuffs is worn over white linen small clothes. The knee gaiters are made of brown wool with black bone buttons. A black leather neck stock is worn with the white soldier's shirt. A leather waist belt holds the bayonet. An envelope knapsack with a red wool cape rolled up on top of  it is worn by Troopers on campaign. A blue wool-covered tin water canteen, a haversack and a 6' x 6' x 6'  wedge tent finally round out the kit.

The 16th (Queen's) Light Dragoons Dismounted Troop (16th QLD-DT) has an established Quartermaster Stores system to supply its members with a source which ensures that each member maintains the high authenticity standards at a low cost. The 16th QLD-DT network of suppliers makes it easy for new recruits to kit out. The regimental tailor can furnish a suit of clothes made to the 16th's standards. If a member wishes to make his own clothes or have them made for him by someone of his own choosing, he is welcome to do so; however the finished garments will not be allowed to be used unless it meets the regimental standards of fit and quality.
